Our favourite Port tour and tastings

We've visited both Ferreira and Ramos Pinto over the years and they have great tours and tastings and most importantly they're both Portuguese!

Another hidden gem in Gaia near the Port cellars, is a little side street near WOW (World of Wines) with a bar called Piano Douro which also does great wine tastings.

Our favourite foods and places to eat

Francesinha, a mixed meat sandwich topped with melted cheese and usually a fried egg, drenched in sauce is served all over Porto but we particularly enjoy the one at Café Santiago.

Bifana, a spicy pork roll great for lunch, the best place to find them is at Conga.

For breakfast make sure to try a Croissant Misto (cheese and ham croissant) in a brioche croissant toasted/pressed.

Finally, if you're a fan of amazing fish, try the restaurants in Matosinhos, where fish is grilled over barbecues outside the restaurants filling the street with amazing scents, our favourites are Restaurante Lage Senhor do Padrão and Tito 2.

Our favourite spots to visit

Climb Clerigos Tower for amazing views of the city - it's very narrow with steep steps but worth it.

The Jardins do Palácio de Cristal are beautiful to wander round with amazing views of the city along some of the walks.

The beaches at Matosinhos/Leça de Palmiera, are lovely beaches to relax and enjoy one of the beachside bars and cafes.

Important to know:
Most beaches in Portugal have life guards until the 15th of September. Please ensure that there is someone in the beach that you’re visiting and be careful if there isn’t anyone - even more if you have children with you. The sea in Porto area can have strong currents and rip tides which can be very dangerous if you’re not an experienced swimmer. Please be responsible and always on the watch with children.
